Ford Repair: Ford CV Timing Chain, effect performance, chain assembly

Hi Steve,
BACKGROUND:
Timing chain replaced on 91 Ford CV 5.0L at 222,000 miles.
PROBLEM:
Vehicle has no pickup and mileage went from 18 to 11 mpg.
QUESTION:
Can the new timing chain effect performance and mileage?

  Sure, the timing chain can effect performance and mileage if it isn't installed properly.  If the timing is off or the gear/chain assembly isn't set right your engine could lose pickup and fuel economy.  Check it with a timing light to make sure it's keeping good time and check the plugs for any excessive gasoline that hasn't been burned.  Hope this helps.
