Ford Repair: Engine Block ID, water injection system, torqe
QuestionSteve,
Thanks for the information on my 1995 Mustang. I won't put 10 pounds of boost if it is a stock 302, because I have read where they blow after 500hp. My engine is a 347 stroker that has been dynoed at 417hp and 445 ft pounds of torqe at the rear wheels. This gives it about 490hp at the crank. You metioned Intercooling. I looked into it, and found that I don't have enough room to fit one because of the special Facia my car has. I was wondering if you have heard anything about Snow's water/methanol injection. They claim it takes the place of an air to air intercooler. My tuner says they don't work, expecially here in the Florida heat.

Well...an intercooler could fit if you felt like trimming the inside of the bumper, but that's a little drastic (unless you REALLY want an intercooler. I've got a turbo'ed '84 GT350 with a 331 and I had to trim the bumper to fit the huge 3 core intercooler). You didn't mention the type of blower you've got, but there's a chance something like Vortech's aftercooler could work since it's air-water and doesn't fit in front of the car like Procharger's coolers do. As for the Snow methanol/water injection system...I think the jury's still out on that. I feel pretty safe saying it won't make anything close to the power they advertise. I'm sure it would stabilize the combustion a bit...but unless you crank up the boost that's not going to make any power. If it were me, I wouldn't be hooking one up. Since I haven't seen anyone running big gains with the system it just seems like more crap that can break. Hope this helps.
