Ford Repair: converter, torque converter, exhaust shop
QuestionMy Ford Ranger is at the dealership. The "check engine" light was on. They just informed me that it has a "crack in the converter that lets too much air in" and will cost me at least $1100. What is that and is that reasonable. Please help
AnswerDeborah-
Well...I'll assume they mean the catalytic converter even though they didn't specify. If that's the case, $1100 is absolutely ridiculous to replace a catalytic converter on just about any car. The most expensive catalytic converter (think of it like a filter for your exhaust) wasn't even half that cost...and labor is a breeze on those jobs so I'm not sure where they got $1100. Take it to an exhaust shop like Midas or even just a regular independent repair shop. I can almost gaurantee it'll be cheaper. If, by some odd chance, they meant the torque converter it's a whole other story. But the torque converter is an internal transmission part and shouldn't have anything to do with air anyway. Hope this helps.
