Ford Repair: low power, k n air filter, valve job
QuestionHi - I have just bought a 1994 Ford f150 with a 302 engine. It has about 270,000 km on it (167,000 miles). I plan on using it to pull a 16' travel trailer for a few months this year and next and then sell it off. The unit is in great shape and runs good considering its mileage - doesn't burn oil, starts right up (even in cold), idles smooth - however it seems to be real lazy on the highway. It will cruise at 70mph with no problem but slow acceleration. When I tow the trailer the pedal is almost to the floor to maintain 60mph. I am using reqular gas and cannot hear any pinging. Any ideas on how to get a little more power??
Thanks - Rod
AnswerHello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The only thing I could suggest is that you might want to tear apart the top end of the engine and have a valve job done. There are also several after market things that can be done to improve torque and HP. Adding a K&N air filter setup, adding a High flow exhaust, and also adding a throttle body swirl plate are a few.
Hope this helps,
Erik
