Ford Repair: ABS light, rear abs, abs sensor
QuestionI would like to replace the speed sensor on the rear of my 98 F-150 4 wheel drive truck. Do you have a diagram that will show me its location? The light on my dash keeps going on and off at various times. I have had the brakes replaced completely which includes rotors, shoes, and drums etc. Light still comes on but I also noticed the light will stay off after I go through a car wash but eventually comes on again. This is driving me crazy. Unless you have a better idea I figure the speed sensoir is defective and needs replacing.
AnswerHi Ed,
The only way to tell for sure is to pull the codes from the ABS computer. Your mechanic has a scan tool to do it.
It usually is the rear ABS sensor that goes out. It is located in the rear axle. Just remove the 2 wire electrical connector and 1 bolt and remove sensor. It costs about $35.00. If that doesn't fix it, have the codes pulled.
GOOD LUCK!
Jeff
