QuestionHi Patrick,
I have a 99 explorer limited edition SOHC v6. i am a little over
105k miles and i'm starting to experience some gear slipping. It
has trouble moving form 1st to 2nd gear. I have to release the
accelerator and do it a again for it to shift. Can you please help
me?
AnswerEd:
There is a very slim chance that you will need a whole new transmission. The most common cause for your concern would be a torn valve body separator plate. If the plate has been torn for too long though, it may have damaged the clutches inside the transmission. Clutches have only been necessary in a very small number of the vehicles.
Your best bet is to have a transmission specialist inspect the vehicle and properly diagnose and repair the concern. If only the separator plate has been damaged repairs should run in between $500-$700 dollars.
Hope this helps,
Patrick
