Ford Repair: Cylinder heads CCs, d2 d3 d4, exhaust seats
QuestionWhat year/years 302 cylinder heads offer a 58 cc or smaller combustion chamber and hard exhaust seats? I'm currently building a project 302 and need 9:1-9:5 compression with flat top pistons (speed pro H273CP +.030.) The spec sheet on the pistons are 54.5cc =9:49 and 60.5cc=8.86. What heads I'm I looking for without going to $1000+ aftermarket? This engine will be going in my "69 Bronco.
AnswerNyles-
A good number of late 60's-early 70's heads (especially truck heads) had 58.2cc chambers. So far as I can tell just about all heads between '69-'75 have the 58cc chambers. Part numbers would start with C9, D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5. Obviously you'll want to go with late 60's/early 70's head since after '72 engine power dropped drastically due to the oil embargo. Boss 302 heads also have 58cc chambers but good luck finding a set of those for less than a set of aftermarket heads. Hope this helps.
