Ford Repair: 302 V8 FORD, fuel pressure gauge, electric fuel pump
QuestionI have a 1972 Bronco, the engine was replaced and I was told it is a 1983 from a T-Bird. I have only an electric fuel pump and was told to install a mechanical one as well. When I removed the plate covering the fuel pump access there is no opening into which I could install the mech. fuel pump. Could you please tell me what I could do or if I should install 2 elec. fuel pump. I truly appreciate your help in this matter.
AnswerIf your engine has no fuel pump opening, its from a fuel injected motor. It would not be from a 83 t-bird. It is at least from 1986 if it has no opening for a fuel pump. Anyway, you can use your electric fuel pump as long as it doesnt produce over 7 PSI. You can check this with a fuel pressure gauge. If its over, you can either use a fuel pressure regulator (around 90 bucks) or just buy a new holly electric fuel pump (around 75 bucks). The holly produces 7 psi and works great for carbs. If you realy want a mechanical fuel pump, you must change your timing cover and install a fuel pump ecentric onto the camshaft.
