Honda Repair: 1992 Honda Accord, electrical circuits, reputable shop
QuestionMy battery has been dead 2 x's in a row. Jumped it and took it to Autozone - they said batt was ok but alternator was no good. Sold me a remanufactured one for $168 and said if I brought back the "core" after I had it replaced they would give me $50. Then they introduced me to a mechanic that just hangs around their store and he said he would come to my house and replace it for me for $65. He said it was more than he usually charged because he had to take of the power steering something or other. As you can tell, I am clueless about cars! Also, I am poor, poor, poor. (thus the 16 year old car) Does this sound reasonable or should I take it to a shop and take my chances? Basically, how much should a refurb alternator cost and how much should it cost for the labor? Thanks! Nancy
AnswerI strongly suggest to take the vehicle to a reputable shop.
Tell them the problem.
Ask them what it would take to fix the problem.
Primary ignition circuit has many parts that could be faulty. It is not a good idea working on electrical circuits by simply assuming things.
Good luck.
