QuestionWhat should I check for in order to fix problem. 2003 Santa FE 2.7
AnswerHi, Paul. There are three basic issues that can cause this code:
1. Fuel vapor management (evaporative emissions) system leaking.
2. Hose to fuel tank pressure sensor has liquid fuel in it.
3. Purge control valve stuck shut.
Start by checking the simple things.
Is your fuel cap on correctly?
Are the vacuum hoses for the purge control valve hooked up securely and in good condition? I've seen them break near the purge valve.
If you can get under the vehicle and access the fuel tank pressure sensor-- I believe it's at the rear of the tank-- pull the hose off and see if there's liquid fuel in it. If you can't get to it, don't worry about this too much; I've never seen it occur on Santa Fe.
If you've found nothing up to this point and are certain your fuel cap is sealing properly, I'd say it's reasonable to guess at the purge control valve.
