QuestionQUESTION: Hello,
On my 2000 Hyundai accent, I have a button for the A/C. There's a little LED light in there that indicates when the A/C is on. It is also always on when you have the venting system on defrost.
Recently, that light went out. Does this simply mean I need an A/C charge? The car has about 94k miles on it, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was due, but I just get puzzled about that light going off.
ANSWER: Actually, this lamp is a bulb behind a green lens, not an LED. If your A/C still blows cold, the bulb has simply burned out. If I recall correctly, the bulb isn't available separately from the A/C switch.

QUESTION: The A/C doesn't blow cold. Is the absence of that light an indicator that the air needs recharging? As soon as that light went out, I no longer had cold A/C.
AnswerThe power for the switch illumination also provides the signal to the ECM to turn on your A/C. More likely, your A/C#2 fuse in the underhood fuse block has blown. Although there's a possibility there's a problem in the A/C switch, it's more likely that a wire has rubbed through somewhere and is shorted to the body, causing the fuse to blow. If blown, replace the fuse and see if it blows again when the A/C is operated.
