Hyundai Repair: Water Pump Replacement on 96 Elantra Wagon, water pump replacement, timing belts
QuestionI can do minor stuff on my Elantra but haven't tackled something like this before. Is is difficult to change the water pump on the particular Elantra Wagon I believe it is a 3.7 or 3.1 L it is not the 2 something?
AnswerThe 1996 had either a 1.6 or a 1.8 liter engine. There is no difference except for dimensions, so servicing is the same on either engine.
The water pump is mounted behind the timing belt. If you've never replaced a timing belt, you should have a mentor or someone else present to guide you. If you've done a few timing belts, this will not be a big deal.
