QuestionI have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler (4.0, 6 Cyl) and the check engine light came on. I had the code checked and it indicates "crank shaft idle position sensor".
The jeep is running fine (for now). Do I need to replace this ASAP or wait until symptoms (rough idle, difficulty starting) occur? Where is this sensor located and is it a do-it-yourself project or does it require expert installation.
Answeryour choice if u want to do it now or wait until it leaves u on the side of the road.
REMOVAL
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is mounted to the transmission bellhousing at the left/rear side of the engine block.
The sensor may be mounted to the transmission with one of the following three different configurations:
with one bolt (Crankshaft Position Sensor—One-Bolt Mounting). If sensor is equipped with one mounting bolt, it is adjustable..
with two nuts (Crankshaft Position Sensor—Two-Nut Mounting).
with two bolts (Crankshaft Position Sensor—Two-Bolt Mounting).
Near right-rear side of engine, disconnect sensor pigtail harness (electrical connector) from main electrical harness.
Depending upon application, remove either sensor mounting bolt(s) or nuts.
Remove sensor from engine.
