NO PARKING BRAKE ,REVERSE OR ANYTHING, IT SHIFT L /H AND THE SAME SOUND OF WHINING GRINDING NOISE EVEN IN NEUTRAL SOMEONE TOW ROPED ME AND IT MADE THIS SAME NOISE. IS MY TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE OUT OR ONE OF THEM. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. IT A 1993 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC LWB 132,000 MILES
AnswerIt sounds like you may have a failure in the transfer case. I'd suggest you pull the driveshafts and put the car on a lift and spin both axles. See if they are damaged. If not, you have to look at the transfer case or transmission. You can probably feel a failure such as you describe by twisting the output shafts by hand on the lift. The transfer case is the most likely culprit but by taking it apart and checking piece by piece you will identify the failure with certainty
