Land Rover Repair: landrover wont start, starter solenoid, car button
QuestionI had my rover parked and the battery out for almost 8 months. Just had it serviced and was running great. Put new battery in it to give to my daughter and it wont turn over. I sense some sort of lock out. The lights, radio, ac, all work. Not the locks oith the key or with the in car button. I can hear a click at the automatic gear box as pointed out in the owners manual when the Manual mode light and the Sport light flash together this might have a problem??????????????
AnswerHi Richard,
sounds like Passive Immobilisier was enabled. If you open the door with key and then turn the ignition to position II - do you have a solid alarm led? Only LR can fix this, if its true. BeCM and security - a bug if you ask me - I think they can reprogram the BeCM to fix this.
How's the state of your starter solenoid? Gas cap on tight? No water deposits in long standing tank?
Passive Immob. workaround: If you unlock your vehicle and jump in and start engine within x seconds, you might get it going...I think its 10 or 20 seconds. I think it's a european feature that is not activated in US...at least not on purpose.
M & S light may be another problem - neutral switch or harness may have water damage; fix is to replace one or the other. If it's related it could be the BeCM (Body electronic Computer Module). Again, a shop with LR testing equipment should find this problem.
Best of luck,
