Land Rover Repair: front door wont open with key and battery flat, door latch, subscription basis

My lodger's Landrover Discover series 2 battery is flat and the door wont open with a key. He cannot get inside or open the boot to charge the battery. What can he do please ?

My guess is that the latch has broken - it's a common problem.  My first suggestion would be a locksmith, then prying, then breaking a window.  That's kind of all you have left with the key fails - as gentle a break-in as you can accomplish.

Best of luck to you with this project - it's not too hard and you can deal with the door latch with ordinary hand tools although it is a 2 hour job for a LR technician.
