My RR 2003 Vogue is coming up with the transmission fail message on the dash ,what could that be

Your transmission is electronically controlled.  The message is the computer's way of tellign you something is wrong, either in the electronics or in the mechanics of the gearbox.  I suggest you find a shop with Autologic or T4 test equipment to query the trans controller to see what's wrong.
