QuestionI have a Range Rover Classic 3.9 1991 model it is an Auto,
My question relates to the Viscous Fan unit which comes on when the engine gets hot, however I have read that it only engages about 10% of the time, I live in the UK and it is cold most of the time from now until March or April, could I remove my viscous fan all together and not replace it with an electric fan, I drive mostly on the Motor Way and country roads, I do little Town Driving so am mostly on the move.
Could you give me advice please.
Thanks
AnswerYou can remove your fan and add an electric fan, but you do need a fan, whether with or without a viscous coupling. Even if it is cold, if there is nothing to push the air across the radiator, the car will overheat. Any time you are at a standstill, it will cook. The viscous is always engaged, just not fully.
