Land Rover Repair: Fault code P1470 & P1472, land rover freelander, 2002 land rover freelander

The "service engine soon" light came on and the code reader gave P1470 and P1472.  What parts do I need to replace to repair my 2002 Land Rover Freelander.

It's not always as easy as replacing a part, in this case the codes are:

P1470 Varable intake balance valve - always open
P1472 Varable intake butterfly valve - alwsays open

This could be any number of issues, most likely problems with the electronics associated with the above valves but could also point to a cracked intake manifold.  An experienced Freelander mechanic is your best friend in this case.
