Land Rover Repair: 03 Land Rover Discovery, land rover discovery, oil change shop

MY service engine soon light is on.  I thought this was to remind me to have the oil changed (I'm the new owner of this Disco with 38k miles).  I just had the oil changed (just as scheduled) but the light remains on.  The mechanic at the oil change shop said the light needs to be reset.  How do I - the owner - reset the light?  Please advise.

in your '03 manual it states:

If an engine operation or emissions problem is registered by the engine control module when the vehicle is being operated, the ‘Service engine soon’ indicator will illuminate.

The warning light may be emissions related.  Loose gas cap can trigger this, faulty O2 sensors too.  OBDII code reader will give you a better notion of what is wrong.  Advance Auto and most other BIG NAME parts stores will read the code for free.

If it is a loose gas cap, not to worry. After awhile the light should extinguish - providing you tighten the cap!  Otherwise, you'll have to have the reset done with a OBDII reader for your LR.
