Land Rover Repair: Cooling system, radiator shop, complex project
QuestionI have recently taken my disco in for servicing and have been told that the radiator/cooling system and motor may have corrosion. Cost estimate between $2,000 to $8,000.
Where do I start? And is this a complex project?
AnswerHi Colm,
start by going somewhere else for a 2nd opinion.
Find an independent radiator shop that can pressure test your vehicle's cooling system. They should be able to tell you the state of your radiator and hoses.
A common problem with some LR engines are blown headgaskets. This can be expensive (~$2500). A rebuilt radiator should be about $500 to $600.
Most local mechanics can test your vehicle for headgasket failure. If you want a local independent LR mechanic, send me an email and I'll try to find one near your locale.
