Land Rover Repair: Revs stay high for long time when starting, throttle position sensor, air control valve
QuestionHi John,
I have a Disco 97. Everytime I start it even when the motor is hot the revs go up to 2,000 and stay there for approx a minute before they come down again. Twice they have stubornly refused to come down and I had to turn off and start again. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks Chris
AnswerHi Chris,
sounds like the throttle position sensor (TPS) or idle air control valve.
I read somewhere that on the '96 Disco, the IACV is the same as the Jeep 4.0. Might save you a bucket load of $$$ instead of buying from LR. Fellow LR owner said it was part number AC151 and it cost hime $30.
I had the TPS replaced on my Disco...its a common problem with series I Discos. Cost me just under $600 at the LR dealer.
Best of luck,
JohnMc
