QuestionJohn:
You saw my car recently on a diagnostic visit. To summarize:
The truck has 76k miles on it. Weeks ago I had a stumble and led to a head
gasket replacement. Same problem, now it is liner crack in #6?? . I decided
to try the sodium silicate block sealant. However during the flush of the
coolant I got the area by the fuse box soaked. The engine ran fine during the
whole sealing process, but very tough to start and now will not run more than
a few minutes before the engine dies and a relay in the engine compartment
starts "singing". It ran for about 30 min, with no coolant loss (pint or so
before) and then died. I took the engine fuse box and all the area connectors
apart, dried and used contact cleaner to dry & clean everything (including
heat gun). I switched relays and that one started singing too!
Good news is the engine block/gasket issue is improved, bad news is what??
Thanks
Kevin
PS would bring it in but not sure it would make it.
AnswerThose chemical cures are nothing but a temporary fix. The heat and pressure at the liners is just too high. I'm afraid you're facing a new liner in that motor, or a new short block. Pretty much as we discussed.
I don't really know why getting the fuse box wet would cause a problem, provided you dried it out. Try spraying electrical parts cleaner all around and under, and in the sockets.
