Land Rover Repair: Discovery 1997, abs light, engine computer
QuestionI am getting a check engine light and an OBD reading of P1317 The ABS warning light comes on sometimes. If the ABS light is ON then the brakes work fine. If the ABS light is off I will often get brake suddering at low speed braking.
Any suggestions?
AnswerThe two faults you mention both pertain to ABS. The engine fault means the ABS system is not telling the engine when the wheels are on a rough road, so the engine computer can't tell the difference between wheels jerking because of potholes and wheels jerking because the engine isn't running right.
As to why the brakes feel better when the light is on . . . that's because ABS is disabled. The chattering you feel when the light is off is because the ABS isn't working right.
You will need a very sharp independent or a dealer to address this, and they'll need the Autologic or T4 type Land Rover test system
Good luck!
