QuestionHi,
I have a 2004 Freelander and was told that on a large percentage of them the timing belt needs to be replaced by 75K miles. And, that this costs approximately $5K to repair.
Have you heard anything like this, is it really common? What should I be watching/listening for?
Thanks
AnswerOn a gas engine Freelnader, the timing belt is due to be changed per the Land Rover service schedule. Replacement should cost $1100-1500 with the related work. If you ignore the schedule and drive until the belt breaks, the repair cost will be in the $5,000 range.
I urge you to do the service on time, as Land Rover suggests, to avoid breakdowns.
