what is the average cost to replace an automatic transmission  on a 1995 discovery SE.  All help will be really appreciated, i don't want to end up getting riped of.  Thanks

if you have the tranny replaced at the dealer, it's probably more than the vehicle is worth.  

I checked Atlantic British and they list a rebuilt tranny from $2800 to $3000 plus tax - that's just for the transmission - installation and small parts would be extra.  

A dealer would charge even more!  Maybe $6000 or more.  How much more depends on many things ... generosity & compassion is not one of them.  But I digress...

You may want to consider installing a salvaged transmission.  You can find some big savings by searching and installing a salvaged engine.  Use the following site to find a tranny near you:

Some salvage yards will even install the tranny.  I took a quick look and found trannies from $300 to $1500.

Check out the salvaged solution.  Buyer beware....look for low mileage and warranty in deciding where to buy.

Installation would be extra and could be up to $500 or more. Having your own LR mechanic that you trust would really help.
