Land Rover Repair: 1996 Discovery - Service engine light, obd ii code reader, obd ii code

My service engine light has come on and has stayed on, I have a OBD II CODE reader tool, I checked for codes and none were persent ?  and I am not able to clear the light as I normally would be able to.  The vehicle is running fine and has 100k on it and is in good service.  Should I see a code and should I not be able to clear the code ?  juse wondering if you could clear this up. Thanks

The Service Engine light on a 1996 Disco is a timed reminder to perform emission service.  It's not an indication that something is wrong.

You have a separate amber Check Engine light to tell you if there's a problem.
