Land Rover Repair: desperate now..., throttle position sensor, land rover discovery
Questionhi!..i dad got me a land rover discovery 97 for my birthday thougi could never adapt 2 an english car at first but i have fallen in love wit this beast, but its costing me everything.
just for the over heating problem that is,here are the parts i have changed till now:clutch fan,the 2 cooling fans infront of the radiator, new head gaskets with some small rubber ring valves inside (dont know anything bout cars).the car used 2 through out a lot of water at first but after these parts its still does but not as much ,i hate having to get out infront of everybody everytime and have my hood up.plus i am sick of the mechanics in this country(bahrain) they are all blood sucking #$^#^^&.and i have just gotten my care back after they put in the gaskets but now my car has a new problem,it drives rough when the rpm is between 1 and 2.it seems like a wheel inlignment problem bu i know its not beczuse i can slightly hear the engine shaking when i rev its making my whole car shake when i am at the lights.my dad wants me to throw the car away because he say's it isnt worth it but i am really keeping fate in maybe it might get fixed and i refuse to take it to any other mechanic in this country .
if there is any advice i get from you would be hugely appreciated and i have tools to work on the basics,i would rather do it myself.
thank you

AnswerHi Ashe,
I know all about your vehicle and the tough decisions you'll have to make. Your problem with the local dealer is common - too bad for LR. Here in N.America or overseas...it's not easy to have our LR repaired.
It could be a couple of problems: radiator, heater matrix or thermostat. Rough idle could be timing, TPS (throttle position sensor), injectors fouled, fuel pump or filter.
Could also have a problem with the catalytic convertor.
Best of luck,
