Land Rover Repair: radio code, land rover dealer, radio code

1996 Range Rover: You can only get a radio code from a Land Rover dealer? No other options? I have a code finder but appears to be incorrect.

The only way I know of to get the code is from Land Rover.

They can look it up by the VIN of the vehicle or the radio serial number.

I have never heard of anyone having success with code programs on Rovers.  Not to say it can't happen; I just have not heard of it.
