Land Rover Repair: 93 Disco engine stalls, noise, black smoke, dirty plugs, engine management system, fuel mixture

my discovery 93 4 litter petrol has some serious problems which 2 mechanics could not fix, after replacing the engine, distributor and computer.

Symptoms:
1. Engine dies if not holding the gas pedal
2. engine noise like a tractor
3. heavy black smoke and gas smell
4. Plugs gets dirty quickly

Any suggestions?

Hello Roi,

all these symptoms point to poor fuel or fuel mixture and ignition.  The engine management system is not performing properly.  

Since you replaced the engine and the computer, did you have the computer programmed for your vehicle?  Who did the programming?  Chances are that the ECU was not properly synchronized with the other components on your vehicle.  I was of the opinion that only LR dealerships could afford the technology to do this.
