QuestionI have a 1998 Disco Series 1. It broke down in a small town in NE Georgia. I have been told that the engine is probably blown. Who can I go to to get a second opinion or get another engine put in? Should I go new, rebuilt, or used?
AnswerIf you ar ereally finicky, have it hauled here and we'll build an engine for it. We're in Springfield, MA, a $1200 hauler ride away.
If you just want any engine, I'm sure you can buy a motor in a local salvage yard and install it.
Big jobs like that really go better if they are done by someone with a lot of experience. We get work like that from all over the Eastern US for that reason, but in principle, anyone could do it.
A used engine will cost perhaps $5,000 installed. A new short block engine could cost $8-10,000. Obviously, new is a lot better.
I don't know anyone local to you but you could look at the shop listings on www.rangerovers.net
