Land Rover Repair: 2001 defender TD5 smoking badly, defender td5, smoke oil

After about 10 to 15mins running my 2001 defender TD5 cuts down to tickover and will not run above but also smokes badly leave to cool down and it is fine for 10 to 15 mins Have checked the crank position indicator,amd turbo

Hi Kevin,

badly smoking diesel engine.  Sounds like you're running lean - did you check your filters?  I hope you don't have a headgasket problem.

white smoke - water;
black smoke - fuel;
blue smoke  - oil.
