2000 Land Rover Disco II - V8 - Automatic - Gas

Over the last 2 weeks, the vehicle will rev the engine and then the Service Engine Soon light will illuminate and the "S" and "M" lights as well.  Seems like it is stuck in low gear and the D flashed on the gearbox shifter.  After turning the engine off and restarting, problem goes away - only to return after 20-30 mintutes.

I have scheduled a maint check since I am near a Rover dealer but was wondering if you have any idea on what the issue is?

Hi John,

When both the "M" manual and "S" sport mode lights come on together, this is a clear indication that an electrical fault is with the automatic gearbox.

Your owners manual suggest that " If the lights continue flashing after the vehicle has been brought to a halt and the starter switch has been turned off and then again, you should seek qualified assistance urgently."

I think you should arrange to have that maintenace check moved up to tomorrow.  Get it into the dealer before the problem becomes worse.
