QuestionI’m getting ready to tackle my first brake job on my 02 Freelander. I’ve replaced the break pads on other vehicles before but never on a Freelander. Do you have any tips on changing the break pads? How important is it to use genuine LR parts?
I would not consider myself an expert mechanic by any means but I do enough to get myself in trouble. I have to replace the pads because the breaks began making a terrible noise the other day, I was concerned that I wasn’t going to make it home because of the rubbing noise. I hope that there aren’t any serious issues but I feel that I need to replace the pads before I can even make it to the LR dealer for a full inspection.
When I pull the old pads what should I look for outside of uneven wear?
Thanks
AnswerIf you want an alternative to dealer-supplied parts call Rovers North, 802 879 0032 or Atlantic British, 800 533 2210 x 232
Freelanders usually need pads and rotors because the rotors wear below the minimum thickness
Make sure the caliper slides are clean and lube them with anti-sieze. Make sure you clean any corrosion between hub and wheel
