Land Rover Repair: Sqeeking Brakes, brake pads, rotors
QuestionJohn,
My brakes are sqeeking on and off really loud. I took it to the Land Rover Repair shop and he plugged it up to the computer and said nothing was wrong with the brakes. The sqeeking has gotten louder so I called another repair shop for a second and he said not to worry that I just must have cheap brake pads. I dont have $2000 lying around for new brakes. Should I be concerned about this noise ?
AnswerHi Michael,
you could consider changing the pads. Raybestos are a good brand and they are about $50 for a pair. Another cause could be your rotors - they may be glazed (high heat) and can cause such noise. A brake shop could 'turn' your rotors for about $200.
Older Disco's have serious brake weakness and I've been told that the Series II Disco's brakes are better. Disco I rotor is about 3/4 inch thick while Disco II is about 1.5 inches thick.
Consider doing the work yourself and saving $1300 of that $2000.
Best of luck,
JohnMc
