QuestionCan you change a land rover 2.25 diesel engine on a Series 2, 1976 for a Diahastu diesel engine? If so, do you need the plate? Is the plate for the clutch, or do you need a new one of those too?
The engine we have now needs re-boring and we have been offered a Diahastu engine.
AnswerHi Sue,
a Diahastu diesel engine...I tried to find some similar swaps and could not see any other instance of this engine - here in N.America. If LR is telling you that this engine is compatible then I guess they would know. I've had engine swaps before and they are never easy and straight forward. There are always adjustments and adapters to be made - even when the identical engine is swapped in.
I found a fellow in Queensland, AUS who says "all the 2.8 DL motor variants share the same engine mounts and gearbox mounts. Bell housings are the same, as far as I know. Even the old 4 speed gearbox mount is the same as the later 5 speed mount."
If you want more information here is the website to visit:

check out the diahastu page for info and to post questions.
Here in N.America, I don't know much about this engine and those vehicles.
Best of luck,
