Lexus Repair: 1992 sc400 lexus, lexus sc400, sc400 lexus
QuestionGreetings;
My son just bought an older lexus sc400 (1992).
I pulled the rear wheels and the brakes are ready to be replaced. I have not worked on a lexus before but it looks preety straight forward. I will have to remove the rotors for turning. The big nut in the middle of the rotor I believe must be removed. Is there a torque for this when it goes back on?? Does it go on tight or is it loose for end play?? I see the two bolts holding the caliper on. Are they normal threads?? left or right?? Anything special going on here?? PLease let me know if there is anything special about these brakes. Is the bleeding done the same way as a normal car??
Your help would be greatly apppreciated.
Thanks, M. Laderman
AnswerThe big nut in the middle of the axle? Na, that stays there. ;)
Nothing special about the brakes. Just like any other you've ever done. Unbolt the caliper & set it on something so it doesn't stretch the old brake lines out. Then pop the rotor off. If it won't come off, there are threaded holes you can run bolts through. Once they make contact with the axle cap behind the rotor give them a 1/2 a turn each until it pops off. Yes, the caliper bolts are normal.
Just don't bashing the ABS sensor in the axle around on any car with ABS.
The torque for the outer caliper bolts is like 25ft-lbs.
