how do you remove the cover to replace the high brake light bulb without damaging the cover?

Hello Bob,
  I would purchase a trim tool from Sears and gently pry it out slowly.  You can use a small size credit card and lay it on the bottom.  So you won't scratch the surface.  Good luck.
