Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 95 Mercury Sable, mercury sable, cold snap

My original problem was shifting from park into any other gear. It was very hard to shift and sometimes took 5-10 minutes to get it to shift.After some time,the shifter became rather loose and I had trouble getting it back into park at all and therefore had to leave it in neutral and use my parking brake.  After a cold snap, I have no park or reverse.  I can hold the shifter in neutral and start the car, put it into drive and am able to go forward, I cannot however keep the shifter in reverse to back up.  The shifter is extremely loose.  I would like to know how extensive this is to repair and how spendy it can get.  Thank you for your advice.

this is a bad shifter it out of adjusment bring it to a tranny shop so they can make the adj on the calble should be no more than 100 dollors tops for the serivice .
