Mazda Repair: 1993 Mazda engine dies, mazda engine, mazda 626

I have a 93 Mazda 626 and for the last couple years the engine randomly dies.  If I'm cruising it usually will fight thru and restart itself, however lately it won't, I have to pull over.  If I'm idling it just dies.  When I try to restart it just cranks.  If I wait a minute or two it will usually pop right off.  It might be good for months or it might do it again tomorrow or in another 1/4 mile.  Lately it's gotten worse.  I put in a new distributor tach maybe 4 years ago for symptoms somewhat similar.  Could it be in the distributor?

i've seen a lot of distributors going bad, when it dont start, pull off a plug wire, stick a screwdriver in the boot and see if your getting spark.. also check the coil  been a few of those also. if its the dist i would reconmend a factory rebuilt,  i've had nothing but bad luck with aftermarket ones
