Ground yourself, and the vehicle to prevent static discharge.
No sparks or fire within twenty feet of your work area.
Wash the work area with soap and water when finished.
Drain the fuel tank.
NEVER trust your fuel gauge reading when preparing to drain any fuel tank, they can read false, and cause a huge mess.
Remove the clamp, have twenty gallon capacity of drain pans and empty fuel cans, ready to hand.
The hose fitting generally comes out easy with a box wrench.
