Mercedes Benz repair: time to rebuild,trade, happy as a clam, injection pumps

Question
have a 1985 300td with 280k miles (Huntsville AL.)
enjoy the car.
but i am burning oil....out my exhaust huge plume,
while at traffic light,stop or sign i can toxify everyone within area...smells like burning oil well ...really bad...just recently this severe action.....but i must take action.
Actually the  car runs really well.
Minus the smoke  & would be happy as a clam.

thinking of rebuilding.

or what would i trade for to give me similar auto?

White or blue smoke from the exhaust?

You may have a bad turbo shaft oil seal, valve adjustment and/or injection issue.

This thread is huge, the cloud was over five acres when it ran, used turbo, several used injection pumps, and now it does not smoke.
Note: the owner was fifteen, and did all the work.
