QuestionI am interested in an older mercedes diesel; specifically the 300d '77-'85.
Do all of these yrs have 4 speed automatics or are the older ones just 3 speed; and can the non-turbo years have the fuel turned up just enough to pull the same as the turbo models (if so, does this involve buying new injectors and/or pump?). Is it wise to stay away from sun-roofs--I don't want the hassle if they tend to be high maintenance or prone to leaking. I guess I asked more than one question, but any help youcan give me will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou so much!
Answer#1. Buy a turbo, you can't tweak a none turbo to = a turbo.
#2. All have a three speed automatic transmission.
#3. The none turbo OM617 engine is a different engine = can not have a turbo installed without engine damage.
#3. The sun roof can be nice, especially if the A/C does not work.
#4. They are great cars "IF" maintained.
#5. Danger: get a PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection.
