Mercedes Benz repair: Odometer/tripmeter dont work, gauge works, lighting project

Question
I have a MB84 300SD Turbodiesel 126 body. The speedometer gauge works but the odometer/tripmeter does not. Do I need to change the speedometer instrument or do i just replace the cable.
Also my instrument cluster lights are not glowing right even with new bulbs. Do I need new instrument cluster?
Your advise will be appreciated.
