Questionthe 1982 mercedes 240d/ auto trans, run great. However i now have a problem ,while the engine is running ,none of the belts turn. i removed the belts, and found the harmonic ballancer is freely spinning on the crank shaft.looking at the front of the engine,it seems to rotate [when running] clockwise.what direction will loosen the harmonic ballancer bolt? also is there any way to stop the engine from turning when trying to remove the bolt?do you have any repair tips. thank you.
AnswerFrom your description:
It sounds like the balancer PULLEY bolts sheared.
These can be extracted, and the dowel pins replaced, pulley remounted; all without removing the balancer.
Read the following threads, then remove all belts and slide balancer pulley off.
Bolt extractors are in tools at SEARS.
Is it possible to retap the 27MM crankshaft pulley hole where bolt fastens?
