QuestionI have a 1987 560SEL that emits large amounts of black smoke from the exhaust and has a lack of power when I restart the engine within a short period (within one hour). This eventually goes away and the car runs fine. If I restart more than once within a short period the engine does not want to retain idle and emits large amounts of black smoke. I suspect that the injectors continue to emit fuel when the engine is turned off, but I have no idea on how to resolve the problem.
AnswerBest advice:
Take it to the dealer, this needs hands on diagnosis.
If you damage the catalytic converter, dealer will want $2190.00 for the part + labor.
If the catalytic converter is already damaged, you can get one on the INTERNET cheaper.
