MG Car Repair: Choke cable, antique vehicles, dash panel
QuestionI am restoring my 72MGB. It neeeds a new choke cable which I have purchased. The old choke cable needs to be removed. A very savvy restorer of antique vehicles is working on my B, however he cannot find access from anywhere from either the engine side or the dash side to the back of the choke cables' retaining nut on the back in order to release the cable to replace it. What is the best way to access this nut? He is truly baffled and of course when one orders a new part - it never shows how to access anything. He is specifically asking for from where to access the nut. I am doing this research for him.
Your expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Brigitte
AnswerHi and thanks for the question. There would only be two ways the choke cable could be attached to the dash end. Most common - and as you have described, is with a nut and washer from the rear of the dash panel- yes, difficult to get to and you may have to release the dashboard to reach it. I have had success by using patience and reaching up under the dash, but it is not a pleasant job.
Hope this is clear. Good luck for your mechanic and in your repair.
