MG Car Repair: 1972 mgb gearbox dipstick location, rubber grommet, press stud

Hi barrie,
I have a 72 MGB, want to drain and re-fill gearbox. Under car I see dipstick and rubber grommet. but cannot find it inside the car.Pulled up carpet,measured underneath still no luck. Do you know where I need to look for access to dipstick

Hi Rick.  Look behind the centre console.  It will be on the right hand side.  You will find a big rubber bung maybe 3 inches in diameter.  It is hidden under a flap of carpet.  The carpet may be held down with a  press-stud.  

Later cars did not have a dipstick.  They just had a combined filler/level plug on the left side of the gearbox.
