Military Vehicle Repair: CUCV M1010 Shimmy, steering damper, wheel assembly
QuestionI get a Shimmy in my truck at slower speeds. I`ve replaced the steering damper, Shocks, and check for tire pressure of 80 PSI rear and 45 PSI front on my M1010. Any ideas on whats causing it. I can feel the shimmy in my steering wheel, but the whole cab shakes.
Thanks

AnswerShimmies like you described are almost always caused by the tire/wheel assembly. Either a defect in the tire(s), a bent rim, out of balance assembley or improper torque on the lug nuts will cause it. A quick check is to rotate the tires front to back, ensuring they are torqued properly. If that cures the problem, then you know it was the tire /wheel assembly. If not, carefully inspect each component of the steering system for looseness or damage.
