can you take out a thermostat and still drive car and what do you need to have tool wise to adjust springs on values

You can drive without a thermostat, but that can be very dangerous to your engine and it would prevent your engine from reaching normal operating temperature. That can cause poor gas mileage along with other things that can contribute to poor performance.

There are special tool used to adjust your springs but you shouldn't need to unless you know there is a problem. These tools are usually available your local auto parts store.
